School Bus Laws and Safety.
The beginning of Fall means school buses become a regular sight along our roads. There are laws and regulations surrounding how you drive near school buses which should never be taken lightly as these laws are enacted to keep our children safe.
Each state has different laws when it comes to passing stopped school buses, but the common requirement is that surrounding drivers must always stop when a school bus is picking up or dropping off children. If the bus is displaying red flashing lights or a signal arm, then this is a sure sign that you are required to stop. This signal indicates that children are on the street and is designed to protect their safety. The school bus itself can block the sight of the children, and as a driver, the signal may be your only indication that children are present.
While stopping for a school bus might seem like an inconvenience, particularly when you have somewhere to be, consider the fact that any task, appointment or errand could never be more important than the life of a child. The school bus safety laws enacted in your state were designed for a reason, and by complying with them, you are creating a safer, better world for our future generations.
