Managing Network Safety With Remote Employees And Customers.
Working from home may be necessary due to COVID-19, but it is not without security risks. Compounding these risks is the need to share information via email or other file sharing systems and also to virtually meet with employees and customers.
To manage network safety and security, and to prevent malware, viruses, and the risk of hackers getting into your system, consider the following strategies:
- Encrypt data – make sure all data is sent through systems that are data encrypted (have an SSL or TLS layer). Encrypt email for sharing and receiving.
- Use file-sharing systems with passwords – ensure all users to file-sharing systems (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) use strong passwords and require two-factor authentication.
- Update security software – ensure all computers on your network are updated with the latest security software.
- Never open links in email – use security software to scan all email attachments and links before opening, even if the sender is recognized. Configure anti-malware programs to scan all incoming emails automatically.
- Review security for online conferencing systems – take the time to review security protocols for all online conferencing platforms. Use all necessary security measures to reduce the risk of hackers or security breaches.
